Gail Hammond and Peter Crane riding LEJOG for Andreas gift charity, this is their progress so far;
Made it to Carlisle and so over half way with 523 miles done. Today was my best day, good weather and excellent climb over Shap Fell with beautiful views, so it felt more like home. Yesterday was my worse day, loads of traffic and rain. We were on the A49 right through the middle of Warrington. We're doing ok, eating tonnes and slowly getting used to the daily task. Off to Scotland tomorrow. There’s a joke that we’ll have the first LEJOG wedding as we pass Gretna (Pete’s having none of it). There are some great people on the trip all with their own stories and reasons for doing it and all helping each other along.
Things you probably didn’t realise:
How sore your legs can get even to touch
How you realise that an ice bath would help but you just can’t even contemplate it.
How many bruises you pick up just from cycling
How a head wind can make a world of pain.
How brilliant the group is at picking up your spirits when you’re going through a rough patch.
How excellent it is to see a familiar face – thanks to David Harwood for cycling with us. Mum & Dad and Auntie Ross & Uncle Eric, for meeting and cheering us on our way.
How you can spend a fortune on shorts but your best ones are the cheapest.
How getting lost is a total pain – especially at the end of a 100 miles day.
How support from home – emails and text provide real encouragement
How you sometimes wish there wasn’t another hill.
How gripping the handlebars makes your fingers not function properly.
How Chamois cream only last till it rains.
How dirt gets everywhere when it rains.
How beautiful view and a great downhill makes you feel on top of the world.
How there’s good times and bad but you know it’s all worthwhile to support Andrea’s Gift and the great work they do.
Thanks for all the support it really helps
Lots of love
Gail and Pete
